QUANTUM PARENTING
is
an approach,
a state of mind,
a tapestry of principles
created by Dr. Marcy Axness
Marcy Axness, Ph.D., was an Emmy-nominated, multiple award-winning documentary writer/producer in her “pre-motherhood” life. But becoming a mother rocked her well-ordered world and called her toward personal as well as intellectual growth. Once her son and daughter were in school, she turned her penetrating eye and inquiring mind to early human development. Her research question never wavers: How do our conventional parenting and childcare practices affect our children’s healthy development and potential? Her teachings are imbued with a relevance and compassion borne of her willingness to share her own parenting struggles, joys and discoveries.
Using as a narrative foundation her experience as an adoptee and a mother, Dr. Axness became a popular writer and speaker internationally — a fresh, authoritative voice that has for over a decade invigorated the field of adoption and child advocacy. Specializing in adoption, attachment and parenting, her countless publications, many national and international keynotes and trainings, and counseling practice demonstrate, she is a recognized expert and effective communicator with a personable and accessible style.
Dr. Axness is a leading authority on prenatal and perinatal development, which she teaches at the graduate level, and she is one of the world’s few experts on the primal issues in adoption. She also educates adoption, education, and childcare professionals on new findings in child development and their implications for practice. She appears alongside such leading attachment figures as Daniel Siegel and Bruce Perry in a new documentary film, Trauma, Brain, and Relationship: Helping Children Heal. It is about the recognition, treatment and prevention of early trauma, particularly the newly-recognized trauma of disrupted or thwarted attachment. Dr. Axness is the featured adoption expert, discussing suspected prenatal causal factors in self-regulatory disorders (such as ADD/ADHD), and the importance of conscious prenatal parenting.
Dr. Axness’ doctoral research crossed many disciplines, yielding a far-reaching understanding of myriad human development influences. Included in her studies was an in-depth survey of the socio-cultural underpinnings of attitudes and behaviors around pregnancy, birth and parenting, with particular focus on reproductive and birth technologies. She also surveyed many “frontier” theories of human development, most notably those of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf education.
Dr. Axness has a private consulting/counseling practice specializing in mind-body fertility, pregnancy psychology, adoption, and early parenting. Weaving together scientific and spiritual principles, she guides clients in supporting their children’s optimal development, while helping them realize their magnificent potential as parents.
A Note to You from Dr. Axness
I developed QUANTUM PARENTING from years of studying, parenting, counseling, listening, and observing. I have woven together skeins of intersecting knowledge from such far-ranging fields as psychology and theology… neuroscience and quantum science… anthropology and endocrinology. (And too many other ”-ologies” to mention!) And of course, Early Human Development, the field in which I earned a doctoral degree. But perhaps my most impressive credential for parent counseling is that I am the mother of two teenagers (15 and 19) and we’re all still speaking and have no visible scars or bruises! But seriously…
Whether you are trying to conceive, or contemplating adoption… embarking on pregnancy or adjusting to new parenthood… delighting in the preschool years or struggling with behavior problems… I invite you to explore the site and see what ideas might beckon you… to consider… to savor… to try on for size. Put them together with your own knowledge, your own important story, to enrich your soul as a parent and a person.
The “quantum” in QUANTUM PARENTING refers to 1) the irreducible unit of the most powerful influence upon children—consciousness; and 2) the exciting growth that is possible when conventional methods aren’t quite working anymore. With guidance and information, parents can make that quantum leap into a remarkable new orbit of consciousness, effectiveness, and bliss!
